Christmas is a season of joy, love, and giving—a time when communities come together to share hope and compassion. This year, Anak Muda Amankan Nusantara (AMAN) took this spirit to heart, hosting a transformative event on December 24, 2024, that touched the lives of 800 children across Indonesia.
With a steadfast commitment to gotong royong (mutual cooperation) and guided by the Gerakan Solidaritas National (GSN), AMAN launched a meaningful social program designed to address the basic needs of children in underserved regions.
Empowering Dreams Through Action
This year’s Christmas initiative aimed to provide more than just material support—it was a message of care, equity, and empowerment. The program delivered:
Complete school uniforms, including daily attire, sportswear, shoes, and hats for every child, ensuring they feel confident and equipped for their education.
Year-long coverage of book and school supply costs, alleviating financial burdens for families and enabling children to focus on learning and personal growth.
By addressing these critical needs, AMAN ensured that children, regardless of their circumstances, could dream and thrive without the weight of financial barriers.
Reaching Every Corner of the Archipelago
Indonesia’s diversity is its strength, yet disparities in access to resources persist. This program spanned multiple regions, demonstrating AMAN’s commitment to inclusivity and national unity. Beneficiaries included:
Jakarta: 50 children
Bali: 100 children
Tegal: 100 children
Singkawang: 150 children
Ruteng, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT): 200 children
West Sumba, NTT: 200 children
The focus on Ruteng and West Sumba, two remote areas in NTT, highlights AMAN’s dedication to addressing inequality in regions that are often overlooked.
Addressing Educational Inequality with Compassion
Despite Indonesia’s progress, educational inequality remains a pressing issue. Regions like Ruteng and West Sumba exemplify the challenges faced by many children who lack access to basic resources.
In his heartfelt speech, James Karnadi, Chairman of AMAN, emphasized the importance of investing in the next generation:
"When we talk about Indonesia’s future, we talk about these children. They are the guardians of our nation’s hope. This Christmas, we aim to demonstrate that their future is a shared responsibility."
This initiative served as a reminder that education is not merely a privilege but a fundamental right that shapes the destiny of a nation.
Sports as a Catalyst for Growth
Recognizing the transformative power of sports, AMAN collaborated with the Marc Klok Foundation to distribute 400 jerseys and 400 soccer balls to children in NTT. This initiative underscores the importance of nurturing young talent and fostering teamwork, discipline, and confidence through sports.
Marc Klok, AMAN’s Sports Ambassador and a passionate advocate for youth empowerment, shared, “Sports teach us values that go beyond the field—resilience, unity, and determination. It’s an honor to contribute to the development of Indonesia’s future athletes.”
Inspiration from Distinguished Guests
The event was graced by influential figures whose presence inspired attendees and reinforced the significance of collective action. Among the notable guests were:
Prof. Stella Christie, A.B., Ph.D.
As the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Stella Christie captivated the audience with her vision for Indonesia’s youth. She shared:
"One of my most important and noble goals is to create more opportunities for all Indonesian children, especially our youth. That is why we must not only empower teenagers but also nurture young minds from an early age to embrace curiosity, science, and research. Children are little scientists, and fostering a curiosity mentality teaches them the essence of learning—learning how to learn."
Her emphasis on instilling a love for science and curiosity in children reinforced the importance of building a foundation for lifelong learning.
Veronica Tan
As the Deputy Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection, Veronica Tan delivered a message of resilience and self-belief. She encouraged the children:
"What’s important is having the spirit to survive. Children are survivors, and it’s important to remember that our path in life is determined by God. We may not choose our beginnings, but we can shape our destiny. Being here today is by God’s will, and that should motivate every Indonesian child to reach for their dreams."
She further inspired the audience with a call to break traditional stereotypes, particularly for girls:
"We must know what we love, because the world has changed. There are no longer rigid traditions dictating what women should become. Women can be anything they aspire to be. Open your horizons, explore your passions, and set clear goals for your future."
Sabreena Dressler & Daniel Santoso
Sabreena Dressler, a player for the Indonesian Women’s National Soccer Team, and Daniel Santoso, founder and CMO of esports teams- Team Liquid & Echo, shared personal stories of overcoming challenges and pursuing their dreams. Their journeys resonated with the children, showing that with dedication and perseverance, success is within reach.
Collaboration: The Key to Change
The success of this Christmas program was a testament to the power of collaboration. From the Marc Klok Foundation to the distinguished guests, every participant played a crucial role in bringing the event to life.
The collective effort showcased the essence of gotong royong—a spirit deeply embedded in Indonesia’s culture. It demonstrated that change is achievable when individuals and organizations unite to address shared challenges.
A Reflection on the Season’s True Meaning
This Christmas, AMAN reminded us of the true essence of the holiday season: generosity, compassion, and unity. The event was more than a celebration—it was a call to action for a brighter, more equitable future for all Indonesian children.
As we move forward, let this moment inspire us to continue working together to bridge gaps, uplift communities, and empower the next generation. Every small step we take today can ripple into a lasting impact on the future of our nation.
